Subject Matter: Language

Grade Level: Kindergarten

Lesson Objective: Learners will demonstrate knowledge of: Categorizing items based on the attributes of a set of items and what they have in common with each other.

Subject Matter Content Standard: With guidance and support from adults, explore
word relationships and nuances in word meanings. Sort common objects into categories
(e.g., shapes, foods) to gain a sense of the concepts the categories represent.

3. What 3 items in your bedroom are in the shape of a circle?
4. What do an oven, a spoon and a plate have in common?
5. What do socks, pants and shoes have in common?
6. Does a carrot belong in the food category or the clothes category?
7. Does a teddy bear belong in the toy category or the food category?


Assessment:  The use of the internet helped give them understanding of how to sort and categorize things. To assess the students I will do a group activity with them that involves physically sorting different items into four different category boxes.
